Six long years I've been waiting to rip out those ugly laminate countertops in this house! The cupboards are all really great-- solid wood and upgraded. The tacky countertop made them look cheap. So Craig got busy and we ripped those babies outta there! On Saturday morning the guys came and put in granite. It's beautiful. Shiny. Real. No separating pressboard. Unfortunately plumbers do not make house calls on the weekend unless it's an emergency (even when I said this was a personal version of an emergency!) so we will have no sink hook-up until Monday morning. That means no filtered water either so I had to resort to water bottles. This also made me really appreciate having water in the kitchen. We can't wash dishes (and I will not do it in the bathtub!) so I can't cook at all. It's driving me crazy! But it's worth it. You might notice my new oven too-- we found a double oven with five burners! Yes, I'm in heaven. My old oven only had three burners that worked and an oven that was so uneven in the heating that things came out half burnt/half undercooked. (I did manage to cook Thanksgiving dinner... that was a miracle!). And we got a new Fridge. So I actually have some freezer space now! I feel like I joined the 21st century! We had initially thought we'd start with the fridge... then we ended up getting the oven (the sale was just too good)... then we said, what the heck, we'll do the countertops. But then, that meant the tile backsplash needed to come off. So, that's next on the list (I'll get tired of looking at drywall pretty quickly!). The flooring needs redone too but I insisted that we wait a bit. Because once we do that, the rest of the flooring in the house needs replaced. Then the rooms need painted.... and so on and so on....
Nathaniel went to his first dance on Saturday night too. It was a Sadie Hawkins "Winter Wonderland" Dance. He met his date there. That's about all I know. I don't think it quite met his expectations. I have a feeling he is more of a romantic like his mom. ;) He read this in preparation (so cute!). She should have read this. Call me old-fashioned but I expect young people to have good manners. I gathered from his comments afterwards that it wasn't the case with her. Oh well. Such is life and love! I thought he looked cute (of course, because I'm his mom!). :)

The kitchen will look fabulous when it is finished. Worth a little inconvenience!
Nathan looks great - hopefully for the next dance he'll have a date that he likes a lot better!
It does look great!! Beautiful!! and I love your new oven!! Gorgeous!! ...Some disadvantages that will not last, and your kitchen will be soon very functional and pleasant!
I made to myself the same observation after a little problem with the water in our kitchen last year. And I was so joyous when it came back. We are use to it, but it is so important...
