day's gone to the dogs

One thing most people don't know about me is that I love dog shows! Let me clarify: I love watching them on tv, not participating in them. During Thanksgiving, NBC broadcasted the National Dog Show out of Philadelphia. I get a kick out of seeing all the different breeds. They seem like characters in a story to me-- I especially loved the wire-haired dachshund. He looked like he should have a pipe in his mouth, kind of like Sherlock Holmes:

I wish I had a better photo of him! And then there was the record-setting Wire Fox Terrier who won the whole thing for the second year in a row!:

I think maybe it's their faces, which look like they have groomed beards, that I love so much! I didn't get to see the whole show because there was football to watch, and that meant I missed the herding dogs which is where the collies were. I think they will always be my favorite because of Ellie! Check out the website link to see all of the dogs that were entered.

My friend's dog, named Dug, is a wire haired dachshund and he is truly adorable. I had to look after him for 5 days once and he was the easiest house guest - although it made me realise that I don't want a dog!

I watched some too. Saw the working dogs and the Great Dane that won. If you had a mastiff, you'd have to have a towel in your pocket for the drool. We switched to football and the boys are hooked on watching the Godfather - kind of sad to see this weekend coming to a close.

I never got why people would watch Dog Shows until clicking through channels one night long ago. Paused for a few minutes that turned into two hours. Love Dog Shows now!

Ellie is beautiful! We don't have that kind of show on tv yet.
