a dream present

This is one of those days that it seems everything is converging into one idea... one wish. I took Elle for a walk over by Landis Valley Farm Museum and was watching the sheep and horses graze in the field and the ducks and geese splashing in the pond. Ah, to have a little farmette and be close to the land. I come home to my computer where I had the Maine real estate section pulled up, because that just makes me happy to browse through. I was dreaming of owning a salt water farm... that's a farm by the ocean. Of course the universe would have to answer that one with some huge gesture considering the cost of that much land by the ocean. Then, I look at my emails and there's one from Anthology magazine (which I think just went to only online) and it had articles about gift ideas. There inside it's pages was cooking lessons at... the salt water farm in Lincolnville, Maine! Not only cooking lessons, but traditional food cooking lessons! { http://www.saltwaterfarm.com/ }  So, of course I emailed Craig and told him I'd found my perfect future Christmas present. Maybe someday I could work there (?).

If that isn't enough serendipity for one day, I went to the library to pick up a parenting book on hold, and was browsing the cookbooks just for fun, and I found Taste of Nepal by Jyoti Pathak. I flipped through it because I love trying different types of salads ( like the one I made two days ago: Quinoa and Apple Salad with Curry Dressing) and it seemed to have a good selection. And then I saw that it has traditional recipes for fermenting! Perfect! It really is amazing how much we've forgotten how to cook and prepare food in traditional ways and how much different cultures are actually quite similar in their traditions.

So, that's what's happened so far in my day of converging and simultaneous discoveries! Anything good happen to you today? :)

Is that a collie with Annmarie???

Those holidays sound delightful! My friend Karen is off to Sicily for a cooking holiday over New Year organised by Flavours (an Edinburgh based company). It sounds delightful too!

Today- well I had the day off work.....that was good to start with....I made it to the post office and I bought my Christmas tree - the first time in my own house (as I didn't have one last year). It's taken me half the day but I've managed to get it in the stand and it's resting till tomorrow when I will decorate it.

Not making National Trust tomorrow as I wasn't feeling too well the last couple of days so feel a day off the outdoor pursuits is probably best - particularly since I have 2 Christmas parties next week - one with my V&A office chums and the other with my council offices chums!!

your Quinoa and Apple Salad sounds delicious!
It's really funny because this past week I have made some bulgur/quinoa with curry. I wish you a great weekend my sweet friend! xoxo
