chocolate

Birthdays wouldn't be the same without indulgences in sweets... especially chocolate! I am in love with coconut lately so I decided to bake myself a gluten-free Coconut Cake with homemade chocolate icing. It probably would have been even better with vanilla icing but I'm surrounded by chocolate lovers at this house. The cake was so moist and delicious (thank goodness!). This is my first cake baking experience using a different flour-- in this case, coconut flour.

Since I was in a chocolate mood, I also found this recipe for Rustic Mayan Chocolate Truffles which has in it Chipotle Chili powder, orange rind, cinnamon, sea salt, coconut milk, and real vanilla bean. The recipe comes from Nourished Kitchen also. Heaven if you like dark chocolate with some kick! I felt like Juliette Binoche as Vianne in my very favorite movie "Chocolat"... making Mayan chocolates. Really good with coffee or basically anything! ;)

It's been a gorgeous weekend in Lancaster... the sun is shining and we gained an hour on our clocks this morning due to the time change. I was surprised by some birthday wishes from friends who I really didn't expect to remember my birthday and that was really sweet. After a tremendous dinner last evening at Ma(i)son with my family, we all got into our pajamas and watched "Inception". I understood it much better watching it the second time around!  All in all, a good birthday weekend... even after watching soccer in the cold for 3 hours!

I think it's time for some cuteness on this blog! In celebration of the holidays coming, I will try to start posting more fun projects and illustrations. I have been working on one felt project and I can't wait to show you... it's just sort of like Santa's workshop down there in the studio and I feel like I shouldn't show anything until it's finished.  So... see you back here real soon!

Oh I just looked at the menu for Ma(i)son - what did you have? I would have loved it all!

Glad you had a good birthday weekend! I had a lovely weekend - craft fair went ok - didn't sell as much as last year but not sure I had as much to sell. Fireworks last night for Guy Fawkes night were great followed by food at friends, a long run in the glorious sunshine this morning followed by lunch with more friends in St Andrews and a visit to yet more friends and their 3 kids this afternoon....now home for some quiet time!!

You definitely had a wonderful birthday weekend. Ohhh, those truffles...!
Can you eat oat bran? I have a muffin recipe that uses only oat bran but has almonds and shredded coconut.

Both of your cakes look delicious!!!

I've read something on "Teff" lately, I didn't know this cereal, it's the most ancient cereal, gluten free, cultivated in Ethiopia and It contains its own baking powder :)

Well, I hope that your felt project will be finished very soon, because I would like to see :)

ps- I have a flu and I think that I would need some chocolate :) xo

Glad to hear the birthday weekend was lovely. I don't like coconut, but the desserts look yummy. Actually, those are the kind of desserts I need to make around this house. I would not be tempted at all!

I am impressed that Santa's workshop is open - still trying to get my head around all that.
