my studio

Welcome to my little studio! This place contains years of so many projects, ideas and potential. This is where I'll be oil painting (that's Caroline's owl painting on the easel) for the new class I'm taking. I like to surround myself with the things that I love. I still need to put my idea wire up so I can hang photos and sketches of projects I'm working on. (The photos seem a little dark because it's late afternoon now but I had to take them for my class.)

This is basically the space I have in my studio. Those shelves from IKEA are wonderful! Though I still have art supplies in another room in cabinets too. Every time I'm in it, I just want to create!

I have a book fetish. I love my books. Love. So Craig has had to accept that and we've moved boxes and boxes of them so many times! These are all of my art, craft, illustration and children's book collections. And then a few other things too. I still have all my cookbooks upstairs and my novels along with various other things. I really do own my own library. I think that's why Craig bought me an iPad for my birthday... no more bookshelves!

Before I moved Hatch home, I had gotten these two drawing tables from IKEA for my birthday and they make such a great work table for drawing, painting, sewing... anything really! I still have some boxes to unpack (but no where to go). That cabinet is really my sewing cabinet and I think that quilt I never finished is lurking inside along with some other great projects!

It's nice to have a walk-out basement... this gets good light in the summertime and in the morning. Hopefully we can make an area out this door for my easel. And some more flowers!

This is my second (dark) room of my studio space... this is where the dirty work is done and hopefully, we will install a utility sink someday so I can clean up my paint and inks without going into the adjoining bathroom! I have my studio sign from Hatch up here.

Yes, lots of silkscreening was going on for the Turkey Trot down here. I never cleaned up from all of that!

Craig got me this awesome phone last year for Christmas! I prefer old phones, though it's pushbutton. My little "BEF" was made for me by a friend in highschool. ;)

Yes, this is command central (though the laptop is usually carried up to the kitchen). I have all my cute little crocheted items that Olivia made for me along with the Eiffel Tower keychain and the little bird in the hoop! I also have my Jen Corace calendar and a Charlie Harper calendar from last year and two calendars by Jenny M of Toydreams and behappynow, along with Catherine Campbell's from myfolklover for this year. I'll still forget what day it is, but yes, I love calendars! It's an easy way to see lots of prints by favorite artists. There's a few other things up there that I made or collected too. I didn't even get a picture behind the laptop of my little bear and my little wooden German girl (I took a pic before here).

A few of my favorite things on my desk: my Gwen Frostic calendar, ALL my colored pencils (over 300), my wacom tablet, my print by Jen Corace (LOVE), my little doll by Toydreams out of Tel Aviv, my Rob Ryan lasercut calendar from 2009, my little dish by Lotta Jansdotter, and those pencil pods from IKEA!

My incredibly gorgeous yarn stash, a lot of it handmade by Rachel Marie and my bunny knit by Willow! Yes... I should be using all of it... and I will!

Babette and bunny by Fanja at le Train fantome

Mushrooms by effunia

Dolls by Abigail Halpin

Dolls by Rubyellen

My sweet dolls by Jenny in Australia, my print by Fanja, a Babushka doll by Ravenhill in Norway, my teeny tiny ladybug kokeshi by goosegrease and another one I received as a present.

Lastly, vintage deer from my neighbors who moved into a retirement home a year ago and my oil painting (I never finished) of donuts! Mmm.

I hope you enjoyed this small tour of my studio!

I'm in love with your studio - so jealous. Mine is just an empty room with a dream.

Is this Jamie's oil course you are taking? Can't wait to see what you create!

i love it! it definitely looks creativity inspiring. we were just at ikea (love that place) and bought the coolest hanging light fixture. my 3yr old nephew calls it the snowball light. i never saw those pen pods before. what a great idea. if i had a room like that i think i would get a lot more done, well at least things that can be done in that part of the house. there is nothing like being able to leave an unfinished project out instead of cleaning up every time. ahhh someday...
we too love the books and have a big collection.

Your studio has come together so nicely! I can see bits and pieces of HATCH there, too, which was such a nice space to create in as well. Can't wait to see what you produce from this room!

I envy the space that you have to weave your magic in. I have an end of the dinning room that I have made a horrible mess in and am not likely to clean up anytime soon! I hope you use this space to truly follow your hearts desires! I know you will.
