IF: old-fashioned

My drawing for Illustration Friday this week... in pencil (because I totally messed up the first one with watercolor!!!).

Raising chickens the old-fashioned way is the best way! Free-roaming chickens that can feed on bugs, plants and feed in a chicken yard are the healthiest, have the healthiest eggs and make the best meat (sorry if you're a vegetarian!). I won't even eat chicken from chicken factory farms (see more here). I was going to draw that too, in contrast, but it turned my stomach! Actually most old-fashioned farming methods are healthier than modern ones.

IF: acrobat

This is a last minute drawing from my sketchbook since I was out of town over the weekend! See more at Illustration Friday's website.

In a drawing mood...

We got a huge thunderstorm last evening and the cable went out (so did the internet)... so we all got out our sketchbooks and started to draw. The only bummer was that Muse was in concert and we were listening to that (see the guitar player above). I love that my kids are just as creative (or more so) than I am. I think it's time to resurrect Hatch, but not so much as a teaching studio, but my own studio. My dream is to illustrate, so I'm going to turn my space into a real studio. The rain kept me from playing tennis today which is stinky but I'm back to doing yoga again and that's really good for me in more ways than one. The leaves are starting to change colors because of the dry summer and fall is coming closer! I was just in Ohio to attend my cousin's wedding, which was so beautiful, and catch up with family and friends. Weekend trips are just not long enough! Especially when you start driving out and five hours later realize that you left your hanging clothes in the closet for the wedding and have to turn around and drive five hours back (in the pouring rain which you just drove out of) to get them. We got there a day late and right before we had to change to leave for the wedding! But we made it. I made a whole playlist for the car too on my Ipod, but didn't even play it. I get so nervous riding that I end up watching the road the whole time when I'm not driving! I'm sitting here in my studio right now (messy, messy, messy) and realize my calendars are on August. Time to clean this place up!!!

cupcakes

Can you believe I walked right by this tiny cupcake shop several times when I was in Soho and never stopped? I've been looking at cupcakes for this week's illustration friday word-- "dessert" and am now suffering a major craving. Looks like you can order from Melissa's and have it shipped... hmmmmm.
Hope you're having a good Labor Day weekend!
p.s. I forgot to add this link to the most delicious looking cupcake recipes ever!!: Cupcake Bakeshop (It's been down there on the right for a couple years!).

The perfect cocktail outfit... wish it were mine!!!

from today's homily...

Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat.
