2009!

I don't usually do new year's resolutions but I was thinking a lot about the past year (looking through all the posts I've done) and everything I accomplished, and everything I didn't. I think goals are important. So here it goes! (and no comments about not keeping resolutions or anything, please!!!):

1. run/walk regularly: natural endorphins are better than drugs!!!

2. draw: I tried to be creative every day last year. It lasted about three months of doing something daily. This year I'm just going to try to remember to draw whenever I have a chance!

3. go slower:  life seems to be moving too fast. I bought "In Praise of Slowness: Challenging the Cult of Speed" through the Tasha Tudor store. There's a lot to be said for paying a little more attention. That's my next read!

4. always talk to the kids: they are growing up and I don't want to miss anything!

5. do things that make me happy:  I worry so much about everyone else being happy, I forget to take care of myself!

6. make career goals:  I'll share more of this as it happens. I feel like I'm entering another stage of my life. I put my career on hold or just did little things here and there while the kids were little. They are excited to be a part of the next thing I do because they enjoy being creative and even teaching with me! And Craig has a business mind and is in support of this too. It is exciting, even if it doesn't all happen within this next year.

7. be aware of my faith: that is really important to me and it keeps everything in perspective.

I hope that you are enjoying this first day of 2009!
xoxo Bethany

Good luck with the resolutions! I guess mine would be to run a little more, make contact and keep in touch with friends old and new....
I too hope life slows down a little! Funny I just posted that I hoped 2009 would be a little slower than 2008!

Goal setting sounds so much nicer than Resolving. I think it puts less pressure on yourself. I like it! I too have slowed down. I was always living six steps ahead of where I was at the time instead of in the moment. I was missing sooo many moments. Calm is so much more rewarding.

What great goals, Beth! I need to get mine down on paper for 2009...once I find where I misplaced my 2008 paper! I think I need to slow down a bit, too! :)

I am thinking about my "list" too...you have many realistic goals that I know you will accomplish!
I so need to slow down time. Let us know how you like hte book

Great goals, Bethany! I will be 100% behind you encouraging you in whatever you decide to accomplish this year. I want to look up that book you mentioned. And I have a book to recommend to you: How to Listen So Kids Will Talk and How to Talk So Kids Will Listen. I don't know the author's name off the top of my head and I'm not at home to go look, but I used many of the 'techniques' in this book to train myself to be the listener/talker my children needed growing up.

And I LOVED Craig's comment in the last post! He's a wonderful husband to you!

Oh, and expect an email from me in the new future when I have a chance to stop and take a breath.

Those are excellent goals. I esp. like #4. You are right - time moves too quickly! Happy New Year!

Wonderful goals Bethany, I think goals are so much better than resolutions. One of my goals is to say "no" more often instaed of saying yes when I really don't mean that, I think it will make my life a lot simpler.
