good stuff

First, my sister Jane has been working on some great "art" for her bedroom and bath. She told me what she was up to and today she sent photos of the final product! I think they turned out fabulously! She used Amy Butler's fabrics and stretched them on artist's canvas. She was always very good with sewing and she just inspired me!

Beautiful Jane! Now when are you going to start your blog?? :))

Secondly, I tried a new Sarah Foster recipe from Sarah Foster's Casual Cooking : the rigatoni with sausage, cannellini beans, and swiss chard ragu. Did you know that swiss chard was so colorful?? Beautiful red stems and it tastes very good wilted into a spicy dish!

It called for fresh herbs and freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Mmmm... All this freshness really makes a dish! Here's some of what it looked like (I forgot to snap the photo before we started to eat!!). The kids actually liked it! They do like sausage (though this was spicy) and rigatoni noodles. Another recipe checked off on my list of things I'd like to try! Before long, I'm going to become a gourmet cook!!! Okay, maybe not, but at least good enough that my family won't starve!

A kiss for the cook! And bunny ears...hey! What's up with that?!!!

The pictures are great - a good idea to stretch the fabric!

I took a picture of some chard when I was in Boulder, at the farmers' market - the colours were amazing - yellows, reds and purples!

Your dinner looks lovely and the Swiss Chard does brighten a winter day.

I love what Jane did with the fabric - very creative and very beautiful choices.

Wow I love the artwork! Your sister did such a great job! I love the colors. My friend did something similar with pretty papers; I'm soon posting her photos too.

Love the textile wall hangings! Your sister does need to start her blog!

And the dinner looks yummy. I better put down the sock dogs and start cooking. I've got a Moosewood cookbook calling my name...

Cooking can be creative, too, and as you work with the colors of the ingredients, it can give you ideas of how colors go together. I read in a April Cornell book that you should look at nature and see how the colors are jumbled together, not matching, and use the colors of a bush, tree, or flower as your palette. You could do a swiss chard wall hanging!

We have been 'cold' here for a few days and the rain has been pelting us--baby, it pours, in Southern California. (two extra points on your quiz if you identify the song writier!).
