Unfortunately I cannot post photos of yesterday's big holiday, as my computer is still being repaired and I am lucky to be able to sign on and write this!
We had a lovely time at my inlaws home for Thanksgiving...they are all the nicest people in the world! BUT... Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because I LOVE LOVE LOVE the traditional feast of foods: green bean casserole, turkey AND gravy, cranberry relish, and of course pumpkin pie! If you know Craig's parents, you know that they love to experiment. So hesitantly I went, hoping that they would at least prepare a turkey! They did, though they "didn't have time for the gravy". But they did have time to make shrimp and scallops!!! I guess maybe the Pilgrims might have served sea food at the first feast but that was the first time I had it for Thanksgiving! They remembered cranberry sauce... heavily injected with ginger!! I ate it, but I would recommend not using it in the future. There were the regular Hissong mashed potatoes, broccoli, yams and sweet potatoes (though no casserole which I need to make!), corn, and .... I was waiting for my favorite green bean casserole.... Scott made it... where was it here???? No where! (I have to make that this week too!). For dessert I always look forward to one of my very favorites: pumpkin pie with whipped cream. It's not something I ever eat outside of Thanksgiving because my family doesn't like pies very much, and I would weigh 200 lbs. if I ate it by myself regularly. Well, we had pumpkin cheesecake. Sounds good but it's NOT PUMPKIN PIE! So, now I have to find a slice of pumpkin pie somewhere. I almost bought a whole one but I recently lost weight and didn't want to revert back to not fitting in my skinny jeans again.
So next year I am thinking of offering to cook Thanksgiving dinner at our house again and that way I can have all my favorites. I did enjoy the dinner yesterday, don't get me wrong. And the conversation was very interesting... Craig's brother is trying to convince him to attend some extraordinarily expensive seminar (while I was kicking him under the table). I think it was very beneficial to them but I have furniture to buy... he can "find himself" some other time!!!
After we came home, we watched the parade that Craig taped and I saw my Snoopy float! I was a little disappointed in the lack of float coverage and the bands they only showed for a minute, before switching to Broadway performers and NBC actors. But I'm thankful for my tivo and tv, so I could see it. Today has been a very quiet day... I'm learning all about the art of Fraktur for my lesson on Tuesday and enjoying our Friday off. We went to Central Market this morning, picked up locks for breakfast, a couple salads, and a nice piece of salmon to grill tonight! Hope you're enjoying your day too :)

Aw honey - come and eat! There is a TON of food left. I don't know how to cook in small amounts. So bring your pretty butt up to my house and dig in. I'll leave the light on for ya!
Love,
Julie
No Thanksgiving here in Scotland and no turkey at Christmas either - we usually have Rudolph casserole. Venison stew with cranberries - so we joke about eating Rudolph!
I am glad you had a good time with your family!
LOL! I feel the same way, I let my mom do the shopping and cooking this time and somehow she decided to cut a few corners. So instead of regular pumpkin pie with whipped cream, we had some funky pumpkin creme pie. NOT the same. And she wanted to wing it on the dressing but it just wasn't the same as using our traditional recipe.
Oh, well. It was still a lovely holiday, in spite of pumpkin cream pie.
Nice to meet you, my first visit here! Julie is right, dig in (but just dig in for one day so you can have your piece of pie, then you are DONE!) LOL!

No turkey at all for us. Chaplain Dan is allergic to poultry. Instead we had pot roast cooked by The Marine and my famous Swedish meatballs (and roast chicken because four extra people showed up at the last minute). And mashed potatoes. Pumpkin pie we had, made by me. No photos because all the Marines, Navy men, and Olympic contenders (really, truly) polished off my three pies--pumpkin, apple and peach.
We learned in Peanut's class that the settlers ate lots of eel - black eel at that! So, you were right there in the spirit with your seafood. We were with my inlaws too. The food was very traditional. I brought the pumpkin pie, apple pie and cheesecake. Pumpkin said the pumpkin pie was the best. We had some left over. What was that about you living closer? This morning I was trying to rationalize how healthy the pie would be for breakfast?!
Go Apple! We stopped into the store yesterday and I just love their customer service. By default, I am getting David's iphone! I am thrilled to have all that at my fingertips. I read today that 8% of computer users are Mac users up from only 2-3% in years past. I hope you become one who joins in the 8%. Don't forget to ask about an educational discount. Our boys helped us out with that.
Enjoy your weekend. We are struggling with what to get the kids. I think we made some progress this morning. I love the internet! No long lines!
I am trying a new slipper pattern. I feel like an addict. I just don't want to put the knitting down. I want to see what the end result looks like!
Thank you so much for your encouragement! You're one of the big reasons I love to blog.
Chaplain Dan's wife The Princess loaned me the book Freedom Writers and I've read part of it now. I have yet to see the movie. My experiences in the inner city were quite similar to what I've read in the book so far. Maybe one of these days I'll post some blogs about it. (I wrote a couple of posts in 2005 and early 2006 about my neighborhood.)
Sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving....LOL! You are the best!
Have a very blessed day!

Tivo is the best invention ever. I got to see all of my parades too even though I had to cook all morning :) And I agree, more floats!
