It was a really sad morning this morning, as just before I was to teach my class at Church, the D.R.E. pulled me aside to tell me that Nathaniel's teacher from last year suddenly died yesterday after an emergency bypass surgery. She and her husband taught together and I would see them frequently during the week also at Church. She was sweet and though they were retired, they gave some time every week to the children. So I had to wipe away tears and try to focus on the day. We made Jared boxes for children at Hershey Medical Center. To find out how you might do this too, you can go to their website: http://www.thejaredbox.com/. The kids donated fun items that a child can play with and keep when they are in the hospital, either admitted or just there for hours of tests. It was good to focus on giving during a time when someone very lovely and giving herself was taken from us.
Don't take special people in your life for granted. You just never know how long you have with them.

This is so true! We are selfish and just want everyone to be here with us. I sure her widow would love a note telling him the impact they had on you.
I'm so sorry. It's sometimes hard for the children to understand, too.
Thanks for your concern. The Professor's other sister is much closer to one of the worst fires. She and her fam have their clothes already packed in the car, but they don't know if they will be evacuated. Pray for them. I'll let you know any updates. You can also check google for moorpark fire and santa clarita fire for updates.
Sorry to hear your sad news. It makes you realise just how precious life is when something like this happens so suddenly.
How sad. I'm sorry for your loss. Live each day to the fullest, they say. Wonder why the majority of people never do?
Love,
Julie
Love your blog! What a great post....we are going to a good friend's funeral on Wednesday. We all need to stop and smell the roses with the ones we love!
Don't even think about relocating to SoCal if you don't want to have to imagine evacuating!
For awhile the winds died down, but now they're back. It looks like maybe there's not as much smoke outside now, though.
Thank you for the reminder.
