Fall is my absolute favorite season! I get so excited for it: besides the beautiful leaves and the smell of fireplaces burning, I also love the quietness, the crisp air and the grey sky that just pushes you inside after a walk, to snuggle under a blanket. I love the excitement of school football games on Friday nights and apples in recipes. I love that my birthday is coming in another month, then a string of holidays! So in honor of October being upon us, I thought I'd post another poem from "A Child's Calendar" by John Updike, with illustrations by Trina Schart Hyman for you to enjoy! I love the imagery the words create in this one!!...

These are lovely images.
October is one of the best months down here. We are still warm but not stifling hot. I love to watch the leaves change. Your pictures reminded me that we are going to have to get busy on some costumes.
Great poem! Both my sister and I were married in October. We chose that month because of the natural background and scenery abundant everywhere. It's a perfect month. Not hot, not cold. Perfect. It even has a better smell about it.
Love,
Julie
I love this book, I bought it in America a good few years ago, such good illustrations.
