I also thought I'd show you my poster from when I was in the Columbus Society for Communication Arts which was created by Gary Baseman and the guys at Firehouse 101:
Gary Baseman was there to speak, along with Michael Rosen, and they were raising money for the Humane Society by publishing Speak, a book about illustrators and their dogs:
This was back in the early 1990's when a lot of these illustrators were newly well-known, like Lane Smith and Baseman. Gary explained how he struggled in a tiny NYC apartment but was finally getting steady freelance work. Now, a movie under his belt, I think he is doing pretty well. I looked up his website to link to, but his paintings are pretty weird now...oh well.
